Botox®
Botox®
is a muscle-relaxing agent derived from Botulinum that reduces wrinkles
and fine lines by temporarily paralyzing the muscle. The most common area
of treatment is frown lines on the forehead. It may also be used to treat
excessive underarm sweating.
Botox®
temporarily reduces the contractions of the muscles that cause wrinkles.
By relaxing the muscles, the overlying skin becomes smoother. Several tiny
Botox® injections are administered directly into the muscles that
cause lines and wrinkles. Your healthcare provider will determine where
those muscles are located.
Botox® is safe and has very few side effects. Rare side effects include headache, flu symptoms, and temporary eyelid droop. Botox® has no downtime as opposed to other wrinkle-reducing methods. Also, following treatment, there is little to no pain or discomfort. Results can be seen after only one session.
Xeomin®
Xeomin® is a purified muscle relaxant that smoothes fine lines and wrinkles. The Xeomin® injectable treatment temporarily blocks the transmission of nerve impulses to the overactive muscles that ultimately cause wrinkles and lines. As a result of the relaxation of the muscles, the lines and wrinkles are softened. The treatment is a simple procedure and may typically take less than 30 minutes with minimal discomfort. Patients can return to normal daily activities immediately after. Full results are typically visible between 3-7 days after the injection treatment and may last between 3-6 months. Like Botox® and Dysport®, results can actually improve over time with repeated injections, as the muscle becomes conditioned to being relaxed.
Xeomin™, also known as incobotulinum toxin A, is the newest
FDA-approved alternative product to Botox®. Xeomin™ is really quite similar to Botox in many ways. It is a
medicine injected into the face to soften wrinkles by relaxing the muscles
underneath them.
Patients generally notice the effects in three to five days for
Xeomin™ and Botox®. Both products have the possibility of
lasting three to four months, although most LaserMedica™ patients
experience the effects for about four months. The main difference between
the two products is only related to how they are stored. Xeomin™
does not need to be refrigerated, which can make it easier to ship from
the company. Therefore, it is less prone to denaturation and damage than
Botox.
Chemical Exfoliants & Peels
Chemical peels are a category of advanced clinical skin rejuvenation treatments that aid in reversing damaged skin due to factors such as aging, sun exposure, and acne. Chemical Peels are safe, but each treatment has different side effects. Some AHA peels may cause irritation, flaking, and soreness. Complications for TCA and Phenol peels include scarring and changes in skin color. There are three levels of Chemical Peels ranging in intensity and strength:
These are the mildest form of Chemical Peels and provide smoother,
brighter-looking skin. AHA peels may be used for treating fine lines,
areas of dryness and pigmentation problems. AHA can be mixed with
bleaching creams to correct pigment problems, and it can be used as a
pre-treatment for the TCA peel. The peel ingredients originate from
glycolic, lactic and fruit acids.
AHA peels are used to smooth rough, dry skin, improve the texture of
sun-damaged skin, and aid in the control of acne. AHA can be mixed with
bleaching creams to correct pigment problems, and it can be used as a
pre-treatment for the TCA peel. A series of peels may be needed.
This is the deepest, strongest Chemical Peel procedure with the most
dramatic and longest-lasting results. It is used mainly to treat clients
with coarse facial wrinkles, and areas of blotchy or sun-damaged skin.
Since Phenol can cause skin to lighten, your skin tone should be taken
into consideration when deciding whether this level of treatment is
right for you.
The Phenol peel corrects blotches caused by sun exposure, hormones, and
aging. It smoothes out coarse wrinkles and areas of blotchy or sun-damaged
skin. This peel is used only on the face and is not recommended for
dark-skinned individuals. Full-face treatment may take an hour or more.
The recovery rate is slow, and complete healing can take several weeks.
Sun protection must always be used following the peel, and permanent skin
lightening and lines of demarcation may occur.
