Vaccines provide an important defense against preventable diseases. At CareMedica we vaccinate against most vaccine-preventable diseases. Some immunizations are vital for most adults, especially senior citizens. Others are appropriate for only certain people. We follow the recommended adult immunization schedule revised annually by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Adults Need Vaccinations Too!
Some adults incorrectly assume that the vaccines they've received as children will protect them for the rest of their lives. While this may be true in some cases, there are exceptions:
Some adults were never vaccinated as children
CareMedica offers annual influenza clinics, usually held on Saturdays during September, October, and November. Ask your CareMedica provider for more information regarding influenza clinics.
Essential Vaccination: Influenza
The influenza vaccine, commonly known as the flu shot, is designed to protect against seasonal influenza. Administered annually, this vaccine is updated each year to match the circulating flu strains, ensuring effective protection. The flu shot works by stimulating the immune system to recognize and fight the influenza viruses, thereby reducing the risk of contracting the flu and its potentially severe complications.
Vaccination is especially important for individuals at higher risk, including the elderly, young children, pregnant women, and those with certain chronic health conditions. By receiving the influenza vaccine, you not only protect yourself but also help reduce the spread of the virus within the community. Patients can schedule their Influenza vaccination at CareMedica.
Essential Vaccination: Shingrix®
Shingrix (Zoster Vaccine Recombinant, Adjuvanted) is an FDA-approved vaccine that prevents shingles in adults. Recommended for adults 50 and older with healthy immune systems and adults 18 and older who are immunocompromised, Shingrix requires two doses given 2–6 months apart. Patients can schedule their Shingrix vaccination at CareMedica.
Essential Vaccination: Prevnar 20®
Prevnar 20® is a single-dose vaccine providing lasting protection against 20 strains of bacteria causing pneumococcal pneumonia. It's recommended for adults 65 or older and those 19 or older with chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma, COPD, chronic heart disease, or chronic kidney failure. Patients can schedule their Prevnar vaccination at CareMedica.
